Boldness, Blistering Sales Ideas, and General Bad-Assery

Jeff Shore brings the heat with his book on ways you can grow your sales like a mad man.

I thought the idea of "boldness" was a given until I cracked the cover of the book that Jeff sent me and started to dig into his thoughts on "winning the sale". GOOD STUFF. He starts at the birth of "boldness" and brings the topic to life in compelling business fashion. (That the sophisticated way of saying "it kicks ass"...)

I learned at least 1 new idea in each chapter -- and the expert interviews were an awesome surprise. Jeff ends each chapter by asking for the opinions of amazing high-performers. It felt like I was reading a conversation between all my favorite people.

So, buy the book (or don't -- "your loss") and take a fresh look at what it means to "BE BOLD"... Then go sell something!!!

Not just an ordinary sales book

Bravo,
Just as a great life is not about procedures, great sales are not just about techniques. Jeff Shore has transcended the typical "how to" book with a thought provoking combination of introspection, psychology and what people really want most.. our authenticity. I feel as if I not only have permission to be me and raise the bar on my own boldness but I also have an amazing tool to go deeper and understand why it works. Sure there are amazing celeb interviews, but I love how Jeff makes me feel like a rock star too. I recommend this book for anyone ready to be great at selling anything.

Boldness makes all the difference!

“Be bold and win the sale” by Jeff Shore, could just as easily been called “Be bold and Win!” Jeff introduces a thought process about boldness in sales and in life that directly addresses the one trait that inhibits success – “our addiction to comfort.” Rather than face our discomfort and boldly take action, it is human nature to retreat to a place of comfort, only to regret or justify our decision of inaction later.

Besides finding this book educational and insightful, I found it to be quite inspiring. As I was reading it, making my notes and going through the tasks at the end of the chapters, I found myself addressing the activities that I was putting off in my own state of comfort addiction. And, making great progress along the way.

Many sales books focus on the processes of sales and do very little to address the behavioral components of selling that inhibit or block our successes. “Be bold and win the sale” focuses on the most critical behavioral issues that stop most selling professionals – discomfort. The author successfully maps out the process that is normally followed as a result of our addiction to comfort and provides clear, concise actions that can be boldly chosen to change our behaviors and improve outcomes.

This is a refreshing book. Rather than tout some master plan or revolutionary concept as a “book with fake cures and quick fixes”, Jeff focuses on a real life challenge from an honest, educational, and application oriented perspective. This is as much a book for self-improvement, leadership, parenting and life as it is for selling. This is the bonus value associated with “Be Bold…”

A Generous Companion to the PMBOK v4

Having spent more dollars & hours than i am willing to count, on various & sundry guides to understanding the PMBOK, over far too many years now, I want to share this one with YOU. My goal has been to secure a certification, or course, but more so to understand how my prior experience, knowledge, and understanding relate to the role of the PM per PMI as reflected in the content of the Project Management Body of Knowledge PMBOK. This has enabled me to see my patterns, methods, techniques that work, as well as to raise performance in others, by learning & applying knowledge from the PMBOK, as well as leveraging all my experience, education, & skills with far greater effectiveness.

So, my approach is pragmatic in terms of the above, and that I want to be prepared to pass the Certification Exam with a high degree of confidence that I have mastered the material [a high score].

To me, the Project Management Road Trip is the single BEST companion to the PMBOK. It has the look & feel of a PMBOK Companion in voice and content, while offering an approachability intellectually, on several levels.

The PM Road Trip is PMBOK v4 compliant. I've seen no variances so far.
It is organized in a manner similar to the PMBOK, thereby creating a feel of continuity, yet it brings light to the picture, via comprehensive & comprehensible explanations, examples, definitions, quotations from real people. Chapter vocab. Chapter important concept summary. Chapter 20 question tests. Final exam. Tests include responses, & a bit of 'why'. Overall, nice coverage & presentation.

This book has in short space included very detailed mapping showing each input, output, tool, technique, with the source of the input, destination of the output.
This is included nicely within the various Knowledge area pages in a visual map, as well as in a comprehensive detailed chart listed in resources.

The visuals, LOVE THEM. OK, I am finding the visuals of the Knowledge Areas sticking in my mind with little-to-no effort on my part. [YEA!]

Perhaps it is not perfect? That is a tough one on a publication of this type. A great deal of very specific information.I have found exponentially fewer errors [typos, content errors, etc] in the PM Road Trip than in any other. When I contacted the author to express appreciation for this gem, it was HE who requested of ME that I let him know if/when I find any errors.
Suffice it to say, not my experience in some other situations.

A wise CEO with whom I had the good fortune to work frequently reminded us to be wary of "Analysis Paralysis".
Project Management Road Trip is a key to help you successfully navigate.

Good content, but not good printing

The content is well written and well organized and I do not disagree with the reviews praising the book. My issue is with the printing itself. There are a couple books just like this that are solid on content. I chose this book after previewing it on Amazon because it had color and a nice layout to break up the monotony of working through the material. Unfortunately, the book is not in color like the preview, but black and white on low-grade paper. Worse, the book was designed to be printed in color so the "color" sections come out poor in gray-scale.

The book is only useful if it helps me get through the material and prepare for the exam. Consequently, the visual appeal and readability of a 560-page book should not be taken lightly and are as important to successfully working through the material as the content itself.

This book is inexpensive, especially compared to the cost of the exam and a retake, so in the end I recommend it if you don't mind a little "bait and switch."

The bad point here is the cover of the book, because it's not a good material and some of the covers of the books were completely wrinkle and damage

Pushing forward our understanding of the Experience Economy

As co-author of The Experience Economy, Updated Edition and co-founder of the European Centre for the Experience Economy with Albert Boswijk, I'm rather biased. But believe me when I say that Economy of Experiences is a great book that extends our ideas -- even disagreeing with us on occasion! It pushes forward what we know about today's Experience Economy, focusing on those experiences that are meaningful and co-created. (In fact, it wasn't until I read the first edition of this book that I truly understood what "co-creation" was all about.) Anyone looking to create greater value for their customers should absorb its lessons, for it has many such lessons that anyone seeking to embrace the Experience Economy should take to heart.

The economy of experiences is upon us...

... and if you were at all in doubt, then you must read this book. Boswijk, Peelen and Olthof provide an excellent overview of the history of the Experience Economy, and give a lot of insight into what the future might hold. They build on an academic and scientific foundation and bring it together with some wonderful cases. I thought I was very familiar with the concepts of the Experience Economy, but this book took me by surprise a few times, so I would recommend it both for veterans and people just discovering what it is all about.

Fun and not too scary

I have read this book to my kindergarten class and it brought much delight to my little listeners. The story of the green ribbon around Jenny's neck is always a favorite and I've had to order a new copy of the book because my original is so tattered.

The stories are just scary enough to elicit ooh's and aah's and "cool!" But considering what kids see on TV and in the movies these days, their tolerance level for scary things is a lot higher than when their teacher was a kid!

This is a fun book for families and classes to read together.

Good Info but Needs Editing

There is a lot of good information in this book on how to spot this type of abuse. I recognize I have contact with several people who fit this profile, a few of whom I have to deal with on a regular basis. Just knowing what's happening when I get that "something is wrong here" feeling is a tremendous help. I feel like knowing what's happening, while it's happening, will make it easier to extricate myself if possible and, if not, stand up for myself.

I'm only halfway through the book, though, and I'm struggling. While there's a lot of good information, I feel the book would benefit from an editor. Many times the wrong word is used or is just plain missing (or several are missing--sometimes I just can't intuit what the author meant). I can overlook that; however, I feel like I'm being talked down to by the author, like a quick, breezy lecture to a young person (perhaps I just don't like the author's tone in general).

I will finish reading for information's sake because there are some wonderful points contained within.

Very on point and accurate

Once upon a time, I was in a pretty bad relationship. This book definitely brought me back to those times, but with a different perspective. It really framed what she did in terms of manipulation, and it fit to a t. That's how I knew that this book was super accurate - it brought back many of the feelings of inadequacy that I had from her, and the examples used in the book were very familiar. Damn.

Kudos to the author for presenting a delicate issue in such an accurate and insightful way.

Very eye opening stuff

Emotional manipulation, as the author says, is very subtle and isn't entirely conscious at first, even to the manipulator and abuser. It takes time and slowly seeps into a relationship, until you're left with the realization that you're not even happy... yet you are very afraid of being left.

Lots of very insight into the techniques and exactly why they work. I think the examples are very, VERY good and will help others recognize if they are falling prey to those situations. I recommend.
